40k League Blog Round 1 Review/ Round 2 Predictions

Game faces are on, dice have betrayed and Ross has begun his reign of terror. Let's have a look at how I fared predicting your competence and what I think is in store for Round 2.

League 1 Results

Sam (LAG BA) vs Adam (Heathband Votann)

Prediction: Sam

Result: Sam

Many stout dwarves were put to the Chainsword here but a valiant fight was given. Scouts T1 charging onto Adam's home to prevent the sticky was glorious. With the Sang Guard brick bearing down on the same side both big Hearthguard were brought in to deal with them, and they did but not before one lot of stunties was done in. This could have been Adam's undoing with his biggest murder unit, who trudge 5", back by his home marker but an 11" charge got them back in the game. Unit Lemartes smashed their faces in.

Chris (Cryptic Conclave) vs Sean (Cursed Legion)

Prediction: Who cares it's Necrons vs Necrons

Result: Chris

No Ctan Chris put triple Ctan Sean in the ground! Minor hurrahs all round. Fuck Ctan.

Mike (CSM) vs Alex (Guardian Battlehost)

Prediction: Alex

Result: Alex

A 20 point victory in the grudge match and my sources tell me Mike has been contacting local voodoo doll makers...

Round 2 Predictions

Chris (Cursed Legion no Ctan) vs Alex (Guarding Battlehost)

Prediction: Alex

This matchup looks utterly horrendous for Chris. Very little effective long range shooting against a horde and Skorpekhs are gonna get blasted to smithereens by overwatch and/or won't make their charge due to the -2" Alex has.

Sam (LAG BA) vs Mike (CSM)

Prediction: Sam

These guys are way closer to Horus than those Votann so obviously I will embrace the rage, charge forward and murder everything.

Sean (3 Ctan Cursed Legion) vs Adam (Hearthband)

Prediction: Sean

This is a bit of a dicey one to be honest but who doesn't back the guy with 3 Ctan against the guy with no Ctan?

League 2 Results

Max (Double Warden Custodes) vs James (bit of everything Nids)

Prediction: Max

Result: To be played later

Nerds

Freddie (Hull UM Blades) vs Luke (SS Necrons)

Prediction: Freddie

Result: Freddie

Despite hearing Freddie bemoaning the Nightbringer after it shot one tank to death and murdered the next in melee he squeeks a ONE point win here in Round 1. Luke had a gentleman's Necron list so did very well.

Jack (Spectacle Drukhari) vs Josh (Bigs Incursion)

Prediction: Josh

Result: Jack

My first incorrect prediction from Round 1 and it's fucking Jack! Josh said he made a couple of errors here but this was a dicey one with so much OC with the Drukhari it proves it's not all about murder. HORUS....what?

Round 2 Predictions

Jack (Spectacle Drukhari) vs Freddie (Hull UM Blades)

Prediction: Freddie

I'm sticking to my guns here (mostly just to see if we can get Jack onto his 7th Army for the year) by backing the Fredman. Lots of guns, lots of hulls, plenty of speed - not the sort of thing Spectacle excels in as the Wyches become a lot more susceptible to getting merked.

James (bit of everything Nids) vs Luke (SS Necrons)

Prediction: James

Close one to call this - only one Ctan but it is a nasty one against those Broodlood/Stealer bricks. Doomsdays out range and out damage James' Exocrines and Maleceptor which sounds bad. However the Tfexes can easily do work into the DDAs and I am not sure how well the Necrons hold primary with those reactors Horms. The Genestealers might be pretty solid into Wraiths as well.

Max (Double Warden Custodes) vs Josh (Bigs Incursion)

Prediction: Max

Battle of the four ups here and in Lions the boys in gold are pretty solid at murdering big Daemons. The Lord of Change will be key here - forcing those pesky Wardens to choose to survive until getting clarted in the face by Skarbrand with their FNPs but can it do it across multiple turns without getting sent back to the Warp? 18" makes this harder to do but not impossible but I just don't Josh has enough stuff to get through the number of Custodians.

League 3 Results

Ryan (5 Bigs IK) vs John (Warhorde standard)

Prediction: John

Result: Ryan

Quickly following my first error is the second. If John had read my predictions it might not have gone so pear shaped - I am full of wisdom and knowledge (featured on Goonhammer, ignore the 6th place). But he was not at all braced for the Knights speeds and got absolutely Luke'd, although saved face with not a full Luke.

Dan (Mortarions Hammer) vs Dickie (Carnival EC)

Prediction: Dan

Result: Dan

Back to my accurate ways here with a victory for Mr Dan in a Smelly vs Sexy off. Nothing to do with the armies being played. Dickie trying his hand with Carnival EC looked fun but Dan is an old, aged hand at DG now and got the win.

Harry (Coven Tsons) vs Mark (Virulent DG)

Prediction: I forgot

Result: Harry

Grand Wizard is back to his delusions of grandeur.

Round 2 Predictions

Ryan (5 Bigs IK) vs Harry (Coven Tsons)

Prediction Ryan

I predict Ryan will be in Harry's back line T1, with a Lancer, and the game will collapse from there.

Dan (Mortarions Hammer) vs Mark (Virulent DG)

Prediction: Dan

You know when they say you shouldn't argue with an idiot as they will bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience. Kinda reminds me of Dan.

Dickie (Carnival EC) vs John (Warhorde Orks)

Prediction: Dickie

John is so full of passion for 40k right now that I think it is affecting his game plan. Just so aggressively full of joy he forgets how to play. But I actually think this will be a fun game of Orky smashy and EC sexy.

League 4 Results

Ben (Double DP WE) vs Leo (Coterie goodstuff)

Prediction: Leo

Result: Leo

Only an 8 point loss but Ben did come up to be afterwards to ask if he can switch armies haha! Leo looked pleased with himself as well, cheeky little grin he gets with victory.

Angus (Coven Tsons) vs Jamie (3 Bigs Questoris)

Prediction: Jamie

Result: Jamie

My prediction from last week: "I think the result of this entirely depends on Angus' use of Magnus."

Direct quote from Angus after the game: "I have enough models to keep Magnus safe but didn't."

Absolute cinema.

Mark (Nids) vs Ross (Spirit Conclave Aeldari)

Prediction: Also forgot

Result: Ross

Another soul is cleaved by the ancient tiny terror.

Round 2 Predictions

Leo (Coterie goodstuff) vs Ross (Spirit Conclave Aeldari)

Prediction: Ross

Ross. Sozzers Leo.

Jamie (3 Bigs Questoris) vs Ben (Double DP WE)

Prediction: Ben

Those big knights are scary but Ben has some nice tools for taking them down - it will be about waiting for the right moment to strike and then managing the battlefield against the various small lads. If Jamie goes second and can force Ben to commit early it is his for the taking.

Angus (Coven Tsons) vs Mark (Nids)

Prediction: Mark

I think Mark is gonna jump Angus with the Genestealer surprise and then Angus will malfunction.
