Well well well. Two of my predictions were wrong and the one I just did for the lolz ended up being bang on. Let’s see how things unfolded:
Matt (Necrons / Take and Hold) Vs Weir (Dark Angels / Recon):
I woke up the day after this game to a message from Weir telling me that I’m gonna be well happy. Logged into BCP and what do I find? They’d only gone and scored a bloody DRAW.
Not only that, but the boys had also managed to score my side-prediction of Lisa being absolutely livid that they were still playing at 22:30 LOL. It’s easy to blame ol’ slow playing Weir for this, so I will.
More accurately though, it seems this was a war of attrition between Necrons that take too long to kill and Ravenwing that can’t be hit. Pour one out for their collective brains being fried at the end of this.
Prediction: Draw
Winner: Lisa - Matt and Weir will owe her a drink now

Craig (Death Guard / Recon) Vs Dan (Death Guard / Take and Hold):
Well, we didn’t have a dust up in the car park, but this was certainly a bowling shoe ugly slobberknocker. At one point, Craig had managed to kill 6 of my units in a single turn, and I was preparing for this to be over, and then in the comeback of the century I manage to snatch a victory in the final round, reminiscent of mine and Craig’s previous game when he did the same thing to me. DG mirror matches are tough, mainly because we have to remember our debuffs also affect us. Papa Nurgle cares not from where the rotting guts flow.
I bet against myself here, and maybe that spurred me on, or maybe it’s because I switched to a list that actually has some damage output.
Prediction: Craig
Winner: Dan (87 to 82)

Jamie (Imperial Knights / Purge) Vs Josh (Chaos Knights / Take and Hold):
In my second incorrect prediction of the round, Andre the Giant rewrote history and defeated Hulk Hogan! Jamie must’ve left his creative control card at home or something.
The way Jamie and Josh tell it, this was one of those games that just came down to the luck of the dice – which I guess is unsurprising being that they are running lists that are almost mirror images of each other. The dice didn’t work for Jamie, brother.
Now both guys can go back to being horrible stat-checking bastards while they bully the rest of the division.
Prediction: Jamie
Winner: Josh (95 to 31)

And so we move onto Round 4, and most likely some more games affected by a balance dataslate – therefore my predictions are going to be loose at best. At present, two out of the three matchups are disposition mirror matches, but this could always change too… tumultuous times we live in. GW doesn’t give a shit about us bloggers.
Fixtures:
Matt (Necrons / Take and Hold) vs Dan (Death Guard / Take and Hold)
Weir (Dark Angels / Recon) vs Craig (Death Guard / Recon)
Josh (Chaos Knights / Take and Hold) vs Joe (Leagues of Votann / Priority Assets)
Matt vs Dan

sigh ok I deserved this. But it’s fine, Death Guard will have been buffed to the nines and we’ll definitely finish this game before 22:30. Don’t you worry Lisa, Dan’s got your back.
GW will obviously buff DG so I can add more units to my already impressive CoC and PoP list, and nerf Necrons so that they aren’t impossible to kill, so this will be a cake walk!
Ok fine I’ll stop huffing the hopium. Whatever happens with the slate, I think this is gonna be another war of attrition that’s going to swing on whose key units survive to hold no man’s land.
I bet against me last round, and I won, and I refuse to put a Necrons win in writing, so…
Prediction: Draw

Weir vs Craig:
Recon vs Recon…Oh man, I’m sorry Lisa. I’d be surprised if Sam and Chris still have a license to run the club at Broadoak after this one is finally over.

I think Lisa’s hand might have experienced a Gellar Field failure there…
Anyway, I have a sneaking suspicion that Craig is going to switch to Priority Assets and a combo of Shamblerot and PoP post dataslate, so this matchup might change a bit – however the core concept of Craig’s bunch of stinky stuff vs Weir’s unhittable bikes and land speeders remains.
I think Craig is going to encounter a lot of the same problems I did, however he doesn’t need to worry as much about killing stuff as long as he has guys to keep pressing the action button. Weir on the other hand will need to make sure he is killing as much of Craig’s chaff as possible each turn.
Prediction: Draw (again LOL)
Josh vs Joe:
Another game where the dataslate is potentially going to change how this matchup looks. The rumoured changes to bring pivot back could mean Josh goes more for a wide build. Votann are doing great at the moment so they might get a bit of a nerf, but I can’t see it affecting Joe’s list too much – he seems to be the only person making Steeljacks work so I doubt they’ll get touched!
I think Joe has an easier time of this if Josh drops some of the bigs and Joe can fire off some ridiculous squat shooting to thin the numbers. Joe is improving every game, and has pushed his previous opponents to the limit, but Josh is a big burly smooth brain veteran. This could go either way I think, but I’m not about to throw a third draw into the mix….OR AM I???

Nah.
Prediction: Joe
That leaves Jamie in the temple of BYE this week, contemplating what changes to make to his Imperial Knights post-slate. Mulling over what does and doesn’t work for him….BROTHER. Ok I’ve flogged Hulk Hogan’s carcass for as long as I can…Dan out.
