40k League - 11th - Season 1 - Round 3 - Division 2

Round 3 underway and now everyone’s lists have been locked in during round 2 and I can more accurately attempt to predict the outcomes of each game. But first let’s start with a round up of the previous games. Some are still due to be played so i will review the games that were completed.

First up we’ve got the master predictor himself vs the golden lions!

Now whilst I was sure I would be running my csm in recon I wasn’t sure what the golden bois disposition would be and merely predicted myself as victor based purely on my humble nature. With James going Take and Hold  it was important I was able to secure some real table presence to be able to constantly score max points. With some early pressure from the csm I was able to force James to spread out his units which does mean he’d nearly always have the benefits from running lions, it just also meant I was able to isolate each unit and pick them up with little ease.

(Besides some wardens scamming an entire turn of shooting from half my army)

Victory for the csm and yet again another correct prediction!

Next up we have the plankster himself. Now i predicted this will be a win for the tau and an unfortunate loss for the plankster and whilst i was correct (ok this is getting spooky now) the run down of the game sounded like it was some unlucky moments in the early rounds meaning Alexei was able to get a very strong primary lead and just maintain that pressure forcing the knights to trade down to try claw it back. But from everything I’ve seen it was a battle to the very end!

Lastly for the review on round 2 we are waiting for Ollys tau to face JFAs World Eaters. God Olly I wouldn’t think being a doctor would mean you can’t commit to a game every week -_- priorities am I right

Now onto my thoughts on the match ups for round 3.

First up the we will look at myself vs Alexei

Jack Vs Alexei

Csm - recon Vs Tau - Prio

This is an interesting match up. We’ve had a lot of discussions as a community about disposition match ups and this pairing seems to come up a lot. A fair few people think it’s recon favoured whilst others say Prio. In this case both myself and Alexei have said it’s slightly recon favoured, so I really hope I don’t balls it up…

But gotta back the big dog here and give it to the monster that is me. I will smack those fish back into the ocean.

Next up we’ve got the Custodes taking on the Imperial Knights.

James Vs Ryan

Custodes - Take and Hold Vs IK - Prio

Now Ryan has played a few games with his new list since the dataslate and as far as im aware every game hes kept the same aggressive tempo. And some insider information tells me Ryan has a habit of playing extra cagey vs James, now this could be the secret sauce for Ryan’s victory but unfortunately I think it could lead to the custodes gaining too much board control and running away with the primary. Sadly  for Ryan even if he does play aggressive and full naruto runs to control the board I still think the custodes will be able to shrug off the armiger spam and with the buffs from Lions + the twin linked from all his allarus running around the custodes will take the win.

And for our third and final game of round 3, we have the Benidorm legend Gary vs the Dr Dolittle (something to do with him talking to fish, I dunno)

Gary Vs Olly

Chaos Knights - Purge Vs Tau - Recon

With all the units Olly has at his disposal I do believe this match up is slightly recon favoured. Unless Gary can get a few kills early and get those objectives consecrated in the first turn or second turn there’s a very good chance he starts to fall behind on primary. But if there’s one thing Gary does well…it’s an aggressive turn 1. Hopefully he doesn’t get confused between his favourite army and the CK and attempts to call a WAAGGH.

If Olly keeps himself safe and screens out Gary’s spiky lads for as long as possible whilst he builds up the primary diff he’ll be in a strong spot.

I do however have to give this one to Gary.
