Mixed League Round Up!

So as there are only two games from Casual and three from Try Hard I decided to go absolutely crazy and combine them into one post today.

We are coming to the last week of the leagues and I haven’t had to chase too much (excluding James) so thank you all for taking part. I will be doing a “Most Sporting” vote at the end of each league so even the losers have a chance at claiming a moral victory.

Luke V Simon (Casual) Votann/SW – Supply Drop/Vox Static

Luke takes one step closer to his victory in the Casual League with a brutal drive by on Simon’s Wolves. Not a clean sweep 100 though, which I know will have hurt Luke’s heart.

From the games I have glanced over with Simon I often see a lot of his stuff dead early doors but he continues it to keep it close or take a respectable score and that was the case here. He looked quite sad early on and some key rolls were fluffed while Hekaton’s did Hekaton Sustained things and that makes everyone sad honestly.

Votann are sitting pretty roughly in the overall meta so well done to Luke for piloting them to continuing victory here.

Sam V Ben – Custodes/GK – Take and Hold/Sticky

Custodes won a fucking battle with my stupid stupid list!!! There is light in the tunnel of darkness of brain dead lists.

OK to be fair to Ben this was my best chance at a win – he has a smaller army than me and that is pretty rare with 800pts tied up in two hammer units. More importantly I made almost all of my key charges, which wins or loses my games with so many points tied up in low numbers of units.

Don’t get me wrong GK still did teleporting shenanigans and took me apart, or melted me, progressively until I had almost nothing left on the board. Draigo turned up and murderised a unit of Guard, as he is wont to do. GMDK turned up behind and mulched a Caladius. Crowe and his gang of flame boys melted most of a unit of Venatari on arrival. Lots of dead Bananas.

What got me this game was pretty much perfect secondary draws turns 1,2 and 3 and effectively playing around Mists of Deimos. I desperately needed my Venatari, on my left flank, to kill a unit of Terminators and Librarian and I fucking hate 9″ charges. This meant moving and getting within Mists range. So what I did first was threaten his Paladin brick (without Voldus they aren’t QUITE as scary) with my Venatari. The Paladins were on the centre objective (after failing to kill a Caladius lol) so unlikely to teleport away but just move their 6″. Which is what they did. This freed me up to charge the Librarian and hold that primary for another turn. Then nightmare for Ben when I still made two charges into the Paladins (including 10″ from Venatari) and largely cleaned them up.Big points lead early on kept me in the game and now I just need to smash Harry.

Andy v James – SM/SM – Hidden Supplies

A gentleman’s agreement for a battle between First Born’s and the stage was set. I believe there were four Land Raiders on the board here, which I just love to see, as well as Tactical Squads aplenty.

Despite the prevalence of Tactical squads both players eschewed the choice of Tactical Missions and went fixed – both choosing Bring it Down and Assassinate. By the looks of it BiD was a good choice for Andy and the rest of the choices were absolutely terrible. So little faith in your First Born’s to get the job done brings shame upon you both.

Andy has now finished his league run and ends with a respectable record of 4 wins, 1 Draw and 2 losses. He also stayed true to his word and brought a Tactical Squad to every game and this basically means he won anyway.

Gary V Chris – CK/IG – Vital Ground/Supply Lines

The most momentous battle so far with both players vying for the title of “Least Regarded”. Chris had quite openly said, from the start of the league, that he was building a list specifically to murder Gary’s. It just so happened that he murdered a lot of the rest of us on his way.

And murder Gary he did. Lancer and several dogs went pop turn 1 meant the game was likely over already but, stalwart that he is, Gary continued the game.

They both had smiles on their faces throughout which, while horrifying to actually look at, is nice to know.

I think Chris would have had to fluff REALLY hard turn 1 and 2 to give the traitors a chance to close and really smash things up and if that didn’t happen, well, then what happened happens. Happen.

If leaves Rob the challenge of being the only person to defeat Chris, exactly like it was last year. Last year I wanted a Rob victory and this year I don’t – it will mean I finish below the sad Admech and that, in turn, will make me sad. Bring the pain Chris.

Leo V Rob – CSM/Admech – Vital Ground/Supply Lines

Soo…..this went poorly. For Leo anyway. I think he will comfortably walk away with the dubious award for lowest points score across both leagues and both seasons. A massive 16vp. For those math nerds out there that means he amassed a total of 6 himself. Fantastic work.

The fact that he pulled a Harry, threw his toys out the pram, and bailed before turn 2 isn’t relevant here. It is the vicious mockery we can throw his way for the forseeable future. And also because he basically gave Rob a points advantage over me in the league and the grudge shall never be buried.

16VP
