HH AoS Winter League Blog 6 - The Season Finale

he AoS league has been full of twists and turns, and with only a single round to go, it’s anyone’s game.

By which I mean 2nd and 3rd are both up for grabs; I don’t think it’s mathematically possible for Alden to be knocked off top spot in the final round.

Talk has already started about the next league, and which armies people will be bringing.

Excitement seems to be at an all-time high, but this may just be at the prospect of Jake being seen in person!

From the future to the past, I must bring you, dear reader, let’s talk about what happened in round 5 and how brilliantly accurate my predictions have become:

Alden (LRL 2.0) vs Kyle (starting his villain arc)

Prediction: Alden to win

Result: Alden wins

Our tyrant Alden has had a cracking March 2026, which includes achieving the rank of captain and achieving the rank of husband-to-be (congrats again), and Kyle unfortunately, was quickly in his wake right at the start of the month.

In a shock to no one, the LRL took brutal victory here, the new book not dropping a beat for our pointy-eared oppressors.

Liam (too tall to be a dwarf) vs Andy (anime vampire)

Prediction: Andy to grind out a narrow win

Result: Drawn game

I’m taking this one as essentially correct from me, with a narrow win predicted and the 2 armies fighting out a tight draw.

Vhrodrai appears to have been worth his base’s width in gold, taking an absolute pummeling before eventually dying late game.

Leo (becoming a menace) vs Max (there’s 5 rounds dude!)

Prediction: Leo to win

Result: Leo takes the victory

Leo has truly unlocked the power of AoS, going on an absolute rampage late in the league and genuinely threatening to get a podium!

Tactical Gnawhole placement seems to have gotten the better of Max, with him being forced to screen against the rodent shenanigans, which seems to have blunted his attack just enough to achieve victory.

Joe (needs to download tabletop battles app) vs George (please make Joe download tabletop battles)

Prediction: Joe win

Result: Joe bye win

Bye win or no, correct again people!

(Also, download the ruddy app)

Craig (needs to FECing bounce back) vs Callum (making giant strides)

Prediction: I win

Result: I won

That’s right folks, 5/5 predictions (basically) correct for the second month in a row!

The psychological warfare clearly worked here, I did not think I had much of a chance in this game at all. But, in the end pretty much everything went right for me and likewise went wrong for Callum.

The epitome of which was a mega-gargant failing to do more than a couple of points of damage to the Charnel Throne in a round of combat.

Round 6: Cyclic Shifts

This month’s battleplan is a fairly straightforward one, with 8/10 primary VP achieved by holding as few as 2 objectives, with a further 2 available for controlling more than your opponent.

The underdog rule, though, encourages expansion because it allows turning off a pair of objectives, which can hurt both primary and secondary scoring.

Aside from that, it will be tough to limit your opponent’s scoring!

Round 6 predictions

We have a battlescroll due any time over the next week or 2, so it’s entirely possible that these predictions are based on old information by the time the matches are played, but I will predict nonetheless!

Liam (quietly hoarding trees) vs Max (STILL needs to put Ogors on round bases)

This is an interesting match-up to me, the pace of the Ogors is going to make up for the sloth of the Chorfs, so Liam’s halflings are going to be tied up quickly most likely.

Liam’s shooting and 2+ save Dominator Engines could do some work here, but the damage of the Ogors builds up quickly, especially if those Destruction™ 4+s start to come off.

As ever with Ogors, I expect a bloodbath here!

Prediction: Based on form, I’m going for Liam here.

George (elusive rats) vs Andy (100 Trueblades coming)

Andy is getting better at deploying the absolute smash lord Vhordrai as he goes through this league and gets lots of practice in, and I feel he has been unlucky not to get more than a draw out of his games so far.

George can beat anyone on his day but has also had a bit of an up and down league so far as well.

The rats do not love 3+ saves which Andy has quite a few of, but you never know what dice might do!

Prediction: Andy to get his first win.

Callum (timberrrr!) vs Leo (he couldn’t, could he?)

Three out of five games this round will dictate podium positions which is really fun for all concerned!

This match-up is no different, with Leo at present having taken 3rd place ahead of Callum in 4th at the end of the previous round.

Leo has got some tasty damage dealers in his list, but those Brood Terrors need to fear the Kragnos charge which can explode anything if allowed to. Callum also has 2 other anti-monster mega gargants, but those hit rolls can go all sorts of ways.

The Gargants can get bogged down in units like clan rats, which are such a pain to shift, but equally if those 4+s start to pop off, rats are going to be squished left, right and (you guessed it) centre.

Prediction: Leo to continue his irresistible form.

Alden (heir apparent to his own throne) vs Joe (sniffing a podium, or maybe it’s Rotigus?)

These 2 recently swapped armies and Alden beat Joe with his own stinky chaps, so I have no doubt Joe will want to avenge that loss and go for that sweet, sweet podium (hopefully before the rotswords get nerfed).

It’s never an easy task against Alden, however, so if Joe manages to get through this with a win it will be richly deserved!

We wish you well against the final boss, Joseph.

Prediction: I’ve not bet against Alden so far, and I ain’t starting now!

Craig (nervously awaiting battlescroll) vs Kyle (somewhat less nervously awaiting it)

Kyle and I have agreed to wait until after the battlescroll for our game, as it will likely dictate our final lists and lists for the GT in mid-April.

In terms of the lists that will be played in this game, who knows!

What we do know is this is yet another massive final game, with both of us gunning for a podium place.

Kyle loves playing against Ushoran, it’s one of his favourite things (honest), which is a boon to me.

Vizzik looks like a horrible piece of work though, so I will need to take him (and that Nagash-damned Bell) out as soon as possible.

Prediction: I’m going for psychological warfare again, I AM YOUR HAY KING, Kyle!

Final comments

As well as trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, I will be doing trophies for best painted (for those who have actually painted their armies) and best sport (for the opponent you’ve most felt embodies our HH values or just had the best time playing against).

Please send me your votes before the end of April!
