End of the League – Casual Roundup

After 14 weeks, 2 drop outs, 7 games and 10 players scared of a biweekly commitment to play a game at a place they will already be at (:P) we have come to the end of the Casual League.
Today we will look at the winners, the losers and who achieved what they set out to at the very beginning. Finally we will be awarding the best Sportsmanship to someone further down.
Andy will also be dropping by to give his take on the league tomorrow so keep an eye out for that.
Firstly, we congratulate our winner – Luke “The Honey” Honeywill with his filthy shooting dwarves! An absolute clean sweep of victories with 649/700 VP scored – beautiful stuff. Weirdly the game he dropped the most VP was against James and his absurdity of a list.
Dave followed at his tail but a gentleman’s draw against Andy and Luke smashing his back doors in means he has had to settle for 2nd place with Phil quietly but surely creeping in only just behind in third.
Karl was unable to play so we won’t include him in the Wooden Spoon conversation – that honour falls to Joel, who at least got three games in before life took over.
What They Wanted
Brett
“I’m hoping to get in the top 3, but I expect it will be a struggle. This league doesn’t seem as casual as it first appears.“
Unfortunately 7th place means Brett’s experiment with Nids has not yet proven successful but I still believe there is something workable there post dataslate. One day I will convince him 3 Haruspexes are the true way forward.
Ben J
“For my 1st 2k league I would like to win at least 1 game“
Realistic targets here for Ben and nailed on with 1 win and a draw. Good to have you with us sir!
James
“69 – the best possible position.“
I’ll be honest I think he achieved that. Brett and Ben need to be mildly ashamed at losing to this maniac.
Dave
“Middle of the pack.“
Was Dave keeping his cards a little too close to his chest with his estimate? Or did he just wildly overestimate you schlubs? We will never know. He did however wildly smash his expectations and achieved the joint title, with Luke, of “Sweatiest game of 40k” during the journey.
Andy
“I would be happy to place in the top 5. I do want to do well, and I do have a competitive streak, but I also want to play a good game with the other players and have fun. For me an amicable game, with some funny moments but also where both opponents give it they’re all is my ideal game. I enjoy it when two armies go hammer and tongs at each other, instead of getting wiped out by an alpha strike on turn 1 or 2.“
Andy succeeded on two front (more on the second later) finishing in 4th place with a very respectable 2 losses and my three second math makes it look as though the draw with Dave made no difference in end placings for either play, which is just lovely.
He did however become one of Brett’s rare scalps across this league.
Also his army is now shit, in case you didn’t hear.
Luke
“I’d rather win every game, but I think I’ll be happy top 3.“
The second part of that statement was a bald faced lie. The first is absolutely true. In fairness to the man he went out there and took names in a consistent and brutal fashion.
No more Casual League for Lukey.
Joel
“I would honestly just be happy to finish each game with my 5th turn under my belt.“
We have studied Joel for some time now and it seems that as soon as he rolls for T1 he enters some kind of alternate dimension where time passes at slower speeds but it is not observable to the outside. We haven’t been able to measure the phenomenon nor have any scientific data to see what exactly slows this man down.
At least he can take his goal into the next league!
Best Sports
As voted for the by the participants in the League we are able to announce the winner of this seasons Best Sportsman. This generally includes how fun they were to play and the whole experience around the game win or lose.
For 2 seasons on the trot I am thrilled to say that Mr Andy and his lovable ways continue to please his opponents and is, by a landslide, the Casual Leagues Best Sports. Well done sir!.
