AoS League Round 3: Halfway there

We’ve just finished round 3 of the AoS league and it was a month in which all outcomes were observed but only 5 games played in anger. Let’s have a look over the scores!
The first 2 were played before my round 3 predictions so he’s a quick recap of those to start:
Dickie (Mutant rats) vs Tom (Dragons and that)
Tom wins 32-28
Unfortunately I was complacent in my predictions, thinking my own game was the only league game taking place on Tuesday, so I have let everyone down by having 2 games completed before my ‘finger in the air’ predictions came out.
Of course I expected Tom to win this one though.
This was an extremely close game, with what seems like a lot of battle tactics being missed or denied for both players. Dickie survived a rough T1 to stay in the game throughout, being very un-Skaven like and holding out to push Tom all the way.
Craig (FEC) vs Pete (Ginger psychos)
Craig wins 30-26
My inaugural win of the league came courtesy of my old mucker Pete. We had to talk out T5 due to time, but ultimately the win came down to my denial of a couple of Pete’s battle tactics which he had meticulously planned out.
Turns out yeeting Ushoran at infantry is a decent option, and also running away from Gotrek is a really effective strategy that I implore others to try.
The Terrorghiest ate well this night, murdering the best part of 20 dwarves, but Gotrek once again showed his prowess, charging 6 Morbheg knights and murdering them so horribly that it actually resulted in Pete being denied a super easy Slay the Entourage battle tactic in T5!
Alden (pointy eared elitists) vs Matt (good honest warhammering)
Prediction: Alden wins 36-32
Result: Alden wins 40-10
I predicted another close win here, but unfortunately Matt was unable to make the game so this was treated as a default win for Alden.
Kyle (ratty wheelies) vs Billie (surf ‘n’ turf)
Prediction: Kyle’s extra spells help get the job done, Kyle to win 32-30
Result: Billie wins 40-10
Again in this instance Kyle was unable to make a Tuesday due to his shifts at work, so Billie gets the auto win.
Lauren (phase shifting bark) vs Mike (dragon ruined chambers)
Prediction: Lauren wins 30-28
Result: 42-42 tie
I predicted a close game here and it turns out these two could not be separated!
Both scored all their battle tactics and (effectively) max primary given Close to the Chest makes it hard to get the extra 2 points.
Neither player can complain really here (I haven’t heard any complaints at least) and both seem to have come away happy with great scoring for both.
Chris (trees, but different trees) vs Joe (Nurgle’s finest)
Prediction: Joe wins 28-26
Result: Chris wins 40-20
OK, look. Clearly I am fallible, I accept this.
We go now from one of my better predictions to one of my worst, with Chris absolutely demolishing Joe’s Nurgle boys.
Joe was denied primary for the whole game, with 12 of his points being battle tactics being scored.
Chris, being the bloodthirsty maniac he is, was unsatisfied with this result and said he would look to make some changes to make his list hit even harder following the game, which I’m sure Joe loves the sound of.
The 2 games Chris has played so far he’s either been blown out, or has blown his opponent out of the water, so next round maybe a draw to balance things out?
Leo (green tide) vs Aid (Karazai the 3rd)
Prediction: Aid wins 26-24
Result: Leo wins 40-10
Another bye here giving Leo a free win!
Callum (healing potion guzzling trolls) vs Jake (chief abhorrent)
Prediction: I have to back my fellow FEC enjoyer, Jake wins 34-30
Result: Callum wins 32-28
I was blinded by my support of the Flesh Eater Courts in this instance, despite knowing in my heart of hearts that the trolls would give Jake a really hard time here.
This was another very close game though this time it was the primary denial from Callum which resulted in the win, with a very strong secondary game from Jake.
Mission thoughts:
Close to the Chest is geared towards close games and in most cases we saw this reflected in the results. I don’t think it’s the most exciting or dynamic which is a shame, but next week is the Jaws of Gallet in which the underdog can remove objectives which should be a lot more interesting!
