AoS Blog 6: 6 and out

It’s the final round of the HH AoS league and it’s all to play for. Well, for 2nd and 3rd place it is, toppling Alden’s vice-like grip on the league would require some fortune for the chasing pack.

Speaking of vices, this month’s mission is The Vice! For my money this is a really fun mission and should be a nice way to sign off the league and the 24-25 GHB.

This mission has moving objectives which get closer to the middle until there is only one for the rounds 4 and 5.

Before we get to my predictions for the final round, I would be remiss not to recap round 5, so here we go:

One round was played before predictions which was the game between Dickie and Billie, with Dickie’s menagerie taking the win 35-33 in an extremely tight game, despite Billie getting 2 double turns, good effort both! Of course the result was exactly what I had pencilled in…

Alden vs Tom

Prediction: Alden wins 36-32

Result: Alden wins 38-12

It was Tom’s turn to get the full Alden experience and this one did not disappoint. Tom scored 10 points in his first turn, then bizarrely seemed to decide that was all he needed to do for the rest of the game.

Callum vs Matt

Prediction: Callum wins 34-32

Results: Callum wins 46-21

Another game here which was much less close than predicted (I’ve right this moment decided that round 6 predictions are going to be full blow outs). Callum did as predicted which was to sit in the middle out of Fusiliers range and let Matt come to him, which was effective!

Lauren vs Pete

Prediction: Pete wins 34-30

Result: Lauren wins 34-32

Pete continues to think I’m cursing him by predicting him to win, but this was another very close one for him. Lauren got a double turn going into turn 5 which was enough to finish off the dwarves and nick another win.

Chris vs Jake

Prediction: Chris wins

Result: Chris wins 43-31

Apparently I gave up predicting scores for this encounter. We’ve only got Chris’ word for this result which supposedly took place on TTS.

Joe vs Me

Prediction: Joe wins 40-32

Result: I win 37-36

Joe can rightly feel aggrieved by this loss which I absolutely burgled with everyone’s favourite manifestation; the wall! I however understand this to be the result of a high IQ play which was the final part of my perfect battle plan. Genuinely though this was an unbelievable game with Joe and (I think) we both had a great time.

Leo vs Kyle

Mike vs Aid

Both bye games were 40-10 wins for Kyle and Mike.

Right, final predictions time! Let’s see what I make of the final round match ups.

Lauren vs Jake

This mission is going to end up with one big fight in the middle of the map, this may not benefit the trees in terms of taking advantage of teleporting around. However, if you stick a load of trees in one place, that’s a hell of a lot of wounds to chew through for the FEC.

That said, not being able to steer clear of Ushoran etc means he should get to do some nice damage.

Prediction: I’m going for Lauren to win 40-28

Matt vs Tom

Matt has amended his list for the final game to include 3 cannons, which might have been well timed with some big ol’ dragons for targets.

I think either player could nicely restrict the other from getting towards the middle objective, particularly the dragons.

Prediction: Dragons to feast 38-32

Billie vs Joe

I think the Maggotkin’s resilience will suit this game. Billie will be able to score a bunch of secondaries, but I’m not sure the Idoneth have the firepower to chew through all those 3+/5+ saves.

Prediction: Joe wins 36-32

Me vs Mike

More 3+ saves to ruin my day here, I will have to make the most out of the honour guard extra rend to have a hope here. Karazai also has the potential to be a massive pain especially in the mid board and I expect the wall will not be as effective this week. Might be a case of yeeting dragon and Ushoran at Karazai and then picking off the rest.

That said, FEC are often ineffective against 3+ saves so I may be being optimistic here.

Prediction: Teeth bounce off steel armour, Mike wins 36-32

Callum vs Chris

This is really the battle for 2nd place, both players have only lost once so whoever wins will go ahead of the other, very exciting!

Both armies have a lot of hard-to-kill, big units/models. This could mean that they cancel each other out. Callum won his last game but eseentialy plonking his army in the middle of the board and that may well be the strategy again.

Chris will be able to zip around scoring secondaries, but if Callum shuts him out of the middle for 2 turns that could well swing it.

Prediction: Callum wins a nailbiter 34-32

Alden vs Dickie

I think Dickie may have already had the Alden rite of passage, so will certainly know what’s coming his way this month.

Based on pure form and having only lost one game of Age of Sigmar since restarting this edition, I think Alden will take this one.

Hopefully Dickie’s rats can take down some elves with him but ultimately Teclis is a nightmare for an opponent and the manifestations and spells will take their toll on top of the cavalry to finish things off.

Prediction: Alden bums Dickie 44-24

Kyle vs Aid

Prediction: Kyle wins 40-10 because bye game

Pete vs Leo

Prediction: Pete wins 40-10 because bye game
