The clocks have gone backwards, the nights are closing in, and Age of Sigmar has returned to the realm of er, Broad Oak.

11 competitively minded competitors have come together to compete in a competition to see who can be 2nd best at AoS behind our very own Alden Plows.

We have a new General’s Handbook and forests battleplans to match, starting with the aptly named Surge of Slaughter.

We’ve all been really enjoying the new battleplans compared to the previous GHB so hopefully this should be a good plan for all concerned.

I am going to continue the tradition of the last league and provide predictions and recaps of each round, and hopefully include some pictures of us having a merry old time along the way.

Here is the important part, predictions!

Aid (The leg bone’s connected to the hip bone) vs Alden (cows and kangaroos, an unexpected love story)

Hopefully, my descriptors for this match-up are clear, if not Aid is making his comeback to AoS with bony skellies and a few vampires (SBGL), to come up against our returning oppressor Alden, with a remixed LRL army full of hard-hitting cow enthusiasts and some kangaroos whose riders ignore wards, which us Death enthusiasts are not going to enjoy.

Both lists are pretty solid, though I always feel like Alden knows something the rest of us don’t when he composes his army lists…

I would be a bold man indeed to suggest anything other than a victory for Alden here and I am simply not that bold.

Prediction - Alden wins

Max Berry (burly boys ™ ) vs Kyle (intense skittering)

Kyle has timed his work schedule perfectly in time for the league to start, and Max is well excited for some competitive AoS, so the stars have aligned for this match up of (maybe) sharp-shooting rats and bloodthirsty rotund lads.

As far as I’m aware Max has only played 1 game of AoS as a warm up in which he steamrolled some small, ginger chaps. As such, I’m not too sure what to expect from this one.

Kyle has been cooking his Skaven lists whilst driving buses around Southampton for months and has schemed so hard, I bet a few people have been missed at their stops…

The Skaven have a quite shooty list behind a wall of rats which Max is going to have to chew through in order to win. However this suits the face-smash style of the Ogors so it’s really going to be a question of who can do their thing the fastest.

Prediction - Kyle victory

Callum (giant expectations) vs Pete (the ginger tide)

I think we can say one thing for sure for this game, Callum will be charging first!

This is an interesting match up I think, Callum bringing his giant lads to bear against Pete’s infantry-heavy fyreslayers.

The Sons of Bs smash really hard but the hitting on 4s for the Gargants can be incredibly swingy. Pete has a couple of reinforced units which can dish out 5+ wards, which will help his survivability, and has plenty of attacks to hit back against the giants who don’t have too much in the way of defence.

He will need to keep that Magmadroth away from Kragnos, who recently did 30 mortals on the charge to my Ghoul King on Terrorgheist, which is frankly, not OK.

I do think Gotrek has the capability to utterly obliterate the big stuff, which is hugely narrative, so I hope he fells one for the sagas.

Prediction - Callum wins (because Pete hates winning)

Craig (lacking Ush) vs Andy (big bases are the best, get high all the time)

We have 2 lots of Vampires facing off in this match up, very exciting!

I am continuing my no-Ushoran experiment, spending 450 points on a unit that can’t wound on 2s has been getting me down for too long…

Andy debuts with the epic Vhordrai and the obligatory reinforced Blood Knights along with what looks like a fairly nicely balanced force to support for his first foray into AoS league.

I have a whole load of Crypt Horrors who love to munch cavalry, but with ward saves across the board, who knows how this might go.

Stuff is gonna die (and die again), but I’m hopeful my experience can carry me through and Andy can learn more about the game.

Prediction - Craig scrapes a win

Joe (bring your Febreze) vs Leo (revived, refreshed and ratty)

Joe has been tuning and tuning his Maggotkin over a long period, this time adding Orghotts for some +1 to wound nonsense, presumably to ensure his stuff hits hard when it swings.

Leo is back and buzzing to bring his rats to bear with some quite smashy monstrosities to bring to bear.

This probably comes down to whether Joe can weather the abominations and fiends doing their thing, along with the rats' superior mobility.

Joe has been iterating and iterating whilst the army has been in index, so he is very familiar with all aspects of what his burly lads can do, though that nicely painted Daemon Prince is surely going to die like a bitch in his first outing.

Hopefully, the two gentlemen can have a nice game that doesn’t result in Leo selling all his models this time!

Prediction - Joe victory

Liam (Hashut sounds like a dwarf sneezing) vs George (seriously, we need some pest control)

Liam is bringing a new faction to the league which is fun and we’re all looking forward to seeing what they can do.

To go with the new army, we have a late entry to the league in George (who I drafted from Sluggaz) bringing yet more rats to the table. A few of us are going to have nightmares about clan rats endlessly regenerating after leaving 1 or 2 models alive by the end of this league, but George has gone for a more elite looking list with 2 big wheely castles and a lot of Rat Ogors to chew through instead.

This could genuinely be anyone’s game, George has played 1 game of AoS 4th, and Liam hasn’t tried his Chorfs yet, so fingers in the air for the outcome of this one!

Prediction - George wins because rats are real good right now

(I never claimed the predictions would be based on anything scientific)

I’ll be back next month to recap my undoubtedly prescient predictions and talk about the nonsense and friends (or enemies) made along the way.
